Speaking on the latest ONS figures, Head of Family Neil Russell Neil Russell, considers the current cost of living crisis, “It could mean that couples simply cannot afford to get divorced and so they stay together. Two households cannot live as cheaply as one.”

Neil noted that mortgage borrowings normally need to increase, but with interest rates going up, the required mortgage borrowings will no longer be available. In his experience, Neil believes many couples are going to be forced to stay together, which means the average length of marriages at divorce will increase.
