Background & Biography

Steffan is a Senior Associate in our Dispute Resolution team. He advises on a range of disputes from contractual issues, breach of trust claims, corporate & individual insolvency and libel actions.

His breadth of experience in high-stakes and complex litigation includes: defending a £50 million fraudulent misrepresentation action brought by 400 claimants in the Commercial Court; policing of worldwide freezing orders; acting for a foreign PLC bank in a £20 million breach of trust claim in the Court of Appeal; a £3 million breach of trust claim in the Business List; and a £2 million professional negligence claim on behalf of a PLC; and defending a £2 million breach of directors’ duties claim.

Steffan is one of a small number of specialist Privy Council agents, acting regularly for foreign attorneys in high-value, high-stakes appeals before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in London. With over a decade of experience, he provides hands-on support and advice to overseas attorneys to ensure that their cases are put on the strongest possible footing from the outset. He has been a member of the UK Supreme Court & Privy Council User Group (chaired by Lord Briggs and Lord Sales) since 2015, where he actively contributes to proposed amendments to the Rules and Practice Directions.
