Philip, Consultant Solicitor, Head of Planning and Chair of the Law Society’s Planning and Environmental Law Committee, specialises in all aspects of planning and development law, guiding clients through the complexities of the planning system. His expertise includes planning applications, appeals, enforcement notices, listed building matters, Section 106 agreements, highways agreements, rights of way, and compulsory purchases.
Before private practice, Philip worked in local government, rising to chief officer overseeing all operational services. His background gives him unique insight into public sector processes, making him, as clients say, a “gamekeeper turned poacher.” He has played a key role in major projects, including new settlements, city centre redevelopments, university campus relocations, and renewable energy initiatives.
“With planning law, you see real-world results,” Philip explains. “You’re literally shaping the environment.”
Philip is accredited by the Law Society as a specialist planning solicitor, a legal associate member of the Royal Town Planning Institute, and a member of the National Association for Planning Enforcement.
Recognised as a leading specialist by Chambers, he is described as a “robust advisor who inspires confidence.” Legal 500 praises his “magic touch,” adding, “his knowledge and level of service are excellent.”
