In 1994, with Martina Ward, he founded Macrory Ward. Macrory Ward’s practice developed speciality in commercial & residential property, leasehold enfranchisement, and all aspects of private client work, acting inter alia for substantial property investors.
John read Politics at the London School of Economics, qualified as a solicitor in 1978 (specialising until 1994 in civil, matrimonial, & criminal litigation) & was a Deputy District Judge for 8 years.

John acted in the collective enfranchisement in 2007 of Barrington Court, Muswell Hill, a block of 102 flats, against determined opposition from the existing freeholders, succeeding after lengthy trials at both tribunal & county court, including as to recovery of some £165,000 service charges wrongly levied on lessees
