Partner & Co-Head of Employment

Background & Biography

Helen is Co-Head of our Employment department. She provides solutions-based, commercial advice to businesses on all aspects of contentious and non-contentious employment law. Helen acts for employers of all sizes including SME’s, charities, not for profits, start-ups, and international organisations.

Helen supports clients to defend Employment Tribunal claims, and to exit employees and resolve workplace issues, often in challenging circumstances.

Career Highlights

She assists clients to navigate redundancies, restructures and complex TUPE issues. Helen also gives holistic advice to employers in relation to workplace grievances, disciplinaries, performance and attendance concerns, and mental health issues affecting employees.

Helen works with clients to produce bespoke employment documentation and organisational policies which reflect and protect the businesses commercial interests and culture. She also advises on changing terms and conditions and enforcing post-termination and confidentiality restrictions.

Helen is an accredited MHFA England mental health first aider.

Supported a national organisation faced with a complex grievance based on discrimination and protected beliefs. Assisted with an investigation and advised the client with the grievance process and overlapping disciplinary issues. Resulted in the successful and confidential resolution of the matter.

Acted for a charity to resist a claim for whistle blowing, disability discrimination and failure to make reasonable adjustments that was brought out of time. Achieved the withdrawal of the claim in whole prior to a Preliminary Hearing to consider the claimant’s reasons for submitting the claim late.

Defended an international travel business against a claim for constructive dismissal, race, sex and religious discrimination. Secured the withdrawal of all claims during a seven-day trial and costs against the claimant.

Advised a financial services company on the exit of its CEO, securing their swift, smooth departure and disposal of their shares and directorship.

Advised a national charity on the restructure of one of its services, resulting in the variation of roles and the redundancy of others. Prepared the necessary documentation and provided guidance on all elements of the process.

Advised a nightclub on the application of TUPE and transfer of 50 employees upon the sale of the business. Managed the provision of employee liability information, the consultation process and secured indemnities from the new owner in relation to the transferring employees.

Assisted an international business opening a UK office in relation to its recruitment options. Advised on employment status and rights and prepared directors’ service contracts, independent contractor agreements, a suite of core policies and a bonus scheme.
