John is a Partner in the Real Estate Disputes team and heads up the specialist Leasehold Enfranchisement team at Seddons. His clients include residential and commercial landlords, tenants and managing agents.
John is a leading practitioner in the field of collective enfranchisement, lease extensions and right to manage claims, having been involved in numerous highly contentious cases.
His work also includes possession/forfeiture proceedings, service charge/rent disputes, dilapidations claims, contentious business lease renewals and breach of covenant actions.
John is a director of the Association of Leasehold Enfranchisement Practitioners. He contributes regularly to magazines and other publications on a variety of enfranchisement and landlord tenant issues.
He has been identified as one of the top 100 influential people in the leasehold property sector, appearing for several years in the ‘News on The Block’ “Hot 100” list which includes a mix of professionals, politicians, property owners and investors.
John was instrumental in pioneering the Leasehold Reform Amendment Act 2014 and continues to work with parliamentarians on issues within the leasehold sector.
John has also been a judge for the industry’s prestigious Enfranchisement and Right to Manage Awards in 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Acting for defendant freeholder, successfully defeated injunction claim where a group of lessees were arguing that the freeholder’s proposed lightwells would amount to a breach of duty under enfranchisement legislation and would constitute a substantial interference with their easement to use the ornamental gardens at the front of the building.
Acting for freeholder in multi-million pound collective enfranchisement claim, involving arguments over whether the freeholder is entitled to the leaseback of a unit which did not exist at the date of the tenants notice and which was the subject of appeals.
Acting for lessees on bulk lease extension project in respect of a development comprising approximately 200 properties.
